Allen Avenue Sidewalk Project Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas — The City of Arlington’s Public Works Engineering Operation Division is moving forward with a major infrastructure overhaul on Allen Avenue, scheduled to begin construction this month. The $2 million project aims to transform the corridor between East Arbrook Boulevard and East Mayfield Road into a model of modern accessibility.

Enhancing Neighborhood Mobility

Funding for this initiative is a collaborative effort, utilizing voter-approved 2018 Bond Program funds alongside federal support from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) Program.

The project includes several key upgrades:

  • Total Accessibility: Installation of new sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps on both sides of Allen Avenue.
  • Infrastructure Safety: Bridge rail modifications and specialized culvert crossings.
  • Enhanced Visibility: New pavement markings, traffic signs, and modern streetlights to improve evening safety.
  • Drainage Solutions: Critical storm drainage improvements to mitigate localized flooding.

The construction is estimated to be completed by December 2026, bridging significant sidewalk gaps that have previously restricted pedestrian movement in the area.

Public Town Hall Meeting

The City invites residents to learn more about the construction timeline and expected traffic impacts during a public meeting:

  • Date: Thursday, April 16, 2026
  • Time: 6:00 p.m.
  • Location: East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Avenue, Arlington, TX 76010.

A Commitment to Connectivity

This project follows a successful Fiscal Year 2025, during which Arlington invested approximately $1.4 million in similar sidewalk and curb ramp improvements. City leaders emphasize that these investments are vital for the “American Dream City,” ensuring that students, seniors, and visitors can navigate our streets with dignity and ease.
