DART Unveils Massive Transit Expansion for FIFA World Cup 2026 Alongside Permanent System Updates

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is officially ramping up its operations to accommodate the unprecedented influx of global fans traveling to North Texas. The enhanced DART World Cup 2026™ service begins on June 8, introducing significant upgrades in both frequency and capacity across the region to support matches hosted in the metroplex.

Strategic Expansion for Global Crowds

Recognizing the scale of this international event, DART has secured targeted funding to optimize regional mobility. “Our priority during the FIFA World Cup events here in North Texas is to ensure seamless service for residents and visitors alike,” stated Trenise Winters, DART’s executive vice president and chief operations officer. “We have secured funding to temporarily increase rail service across the region with more frequency and more capacity.”

From June 8 through July 19, the transportation authority is implementing major route adjustments to handle the anticipated surge in ridership. Most notably, officials are extending the Orange Line to Parker Road on a daily basis. This critical extension aims to streamline travel for thousands of spectators navigating the transit system.

Furthermore, train frequency across multiple transit arteries will see a substantial increase. Commuters and international visitors can expect the Red, Blue, and Orange Lines to run every 20 minutes, all day, every day throughout the tournament period. Normal scheduling for these lines will resume on July 20.

Trinity Railway Express (TRE) Adjustments

To further accommodate match day traffic, the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) will operate on an enhanced, dynamic schedule:

  • Game Days: Trains will run every 30 minutes all day (with a notable exception on June 27).
  • Weekdays (Non-Game Days): 30-minute service intervals during peak hours, transitioning to 60-minute service during off-peak windows.
  • Weekends and Holidays: 60-minute service all day.
  • June 27 Exception: Trains will operate on 60-minute intervals until 4:00 p.m., after which they will transition to enhanced 30-minute service for the remainder of the day.

Permanent Route Adjustments and System Updates

In addition to the temporary World Cup operations, DART is implementing several permanent changes to reflect local decisions and fine-tune overall system performance.

Following a recent municipal vote, DART officially ended service within Highland Park, effective May 14. This discontinuation encompasses Route 237 bus stops, GoLink, and paratransit services in the community. Additionally, Route 212 has been permanently rerouted east of La Prada. Riders will also experience permanent schedule adjustments affecting Routes 18, 20, 30, 38, 243, and 244.

Community Impact and Local Transit Guidance

The sweeping transit adjustments will affect daily commuters and event attendees alike. Residents should plan their routes well in advance and proactively familiarize themselves with the updated schedules. To ensure a seamless travel experience, passengers are highly encouraged to utilize the official GoPass application, which will automatically reflect all updated schedules and provide essential trip-planning tools.

Commuters must allow extra travel time on match days, as heightened security measures and massive crowds will inevitably impact overall travel durations. Locals should also anticipate significantly heavier foot traffic near major transfer hubs, commercial districts, and stadium-adjacent zones.
