ARLINGTON — Arlington police are investigating after a 17-year-old male was shot on Saturday night in a parking lot outside a party, officials confirmed. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Officers were initially called to the 2800 block of Galleria Drive around 11 p.m. in response to reports of loud music and underage drinking. Staying Safe at Social Gatherings

This incident serves as a serious reminder for both parents and young people about the potential dangers that can arise at large, unsupervised gatherings. Taking a few proactive steps can help ensure a safer experience for everyone involved.

  • Situational Awareness: Always be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to the atmosphere of the event and the people around you. If a situation begins to feel unsafe or confrontational, it is best to leave immediately.
  • Report Concerns: If you hear or see anything that makes you feel uneasy, such as aggressive behavior or the presence of weapons, contact the authorities or event organizers immediately. Timely reports can prevent a situation from escalating.
  • Safety in Numbers: Whenever possible, attend events with friends and make a plan to leave together. Having a buddy system can provide an extra layer of security.
  • Communication is Key: For parents, it is important to know the details of a gathering, including its location and who will be supervising it. For young adults, communicate your location and plans with family or a trusted individual.
