ARLINGTON, Texas — A wave of heartbreak has swept through west Arlington as the community mourns the loss of Riley Jordan, a 14-year-old freshman at Martin High School. Following a tragic shooting on Friday night, new details have emerged regarding the circumstances of the incident, leading to a manslaughter charge and a planned public memorial.
The Incident: A Tragic Misuse of Firearm
Arlington Police responded to a residence in the 4600 block of Sausalito Drive at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20. Investigators found that Jordan was hanging out with three friends inside the home when they gained access to a firearm.
Evidence suggests the group was “playing with” the weapon and pointing it at one another when it discharged, fatally striking Jordan. A 15-year-old male present in the room was arrested and charged with one count of manslaughter; he is currently being held at the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center.
